Nearly 60 years after the last trolley run in Sacramento, civic leaders
and transportation officials are dreaming of electric streetcars
crossing the Tower Bridge.
If built, Sacramento would join a growing number of areas - including
Portland, Seattle and San Francisco - that have added streetcar lines
years after the overhead power cables had been snipped and tracks
pulled up.
"I'd say we're still in the dreaming stage, but it seems to be getting
some traction," said Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo, who is teaming
with West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon on the project. "It's
really been capturing some people's imagination and enthusiasm." The
idea appears to have regional appeal. Placer County, Rancho Cordova,
the Arden Fair mall area and the California State University,
